Red Ribbon Week is observed in schools and communities nationwide At Highland we will participate in Red Ribbon Week from October 24th to October 28th as a reminder of the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices year round that include staying alcohol, drug and tobacco free!!! Every student who participates in the Western New York United coloring contest will receive a ticket to the Bisons' “Red Ribbon Game” in Spring 2012.
Highland will be decorated with RED RIBBONS and announcements will be made each day about the daily activities. Following is an overview of the activities taking place at Highland Elementary to celebrate RED RIBBON WEEK 2011.
MONDAY OCTOBER 24th is “WEAR RED DAY”: Students and faculty will show their commitment to a drug free and healthy life style by wearing as much RED CLOTHING as possible! Prizes will be given out to students wearing the most red. Also, students and staff will write their name on a Red Hand and we will create a large Red Ribbon in the main hallway with the hand prints.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 25th is “PLANT THE PROMISE DAY”: Student representatives will plant red tulip bulbs in the garden around our school sign
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 26TH is “RECOGNIZE ROLE MODELS AND PATRIOTIC DAY”: Students will be given special ribbons to fill out and give to adults in their life who provide them with love, support and encouragement as a role model so that they can always make the best choice for a healthy and drug free life. Students and staff are also encouraged to wear patriotic RED, WHITE & BLUE to show they are unified in making healthy choices.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 27th is "TAKE A STAND AND SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY”. Students will have the opportunity to sign pledge posters that will displayed throughout the school year in the hallways. When students feel a connection with their school and community they stand a better chance of making good decisions and avoiding drugs. Students and faculty will be encouraged to wear their school colors of GREEN & WHITE to show their school spirit along with their commitment to a drug free and healthy life. Students and staff will also receive RED RIBBONS to wear provided by the district , showing that they are part of the “DRUG FREE TEAM” ready to make great choices every day!
FRIDAY OCTOBER 28th is "TEAM UP AGAINST DRUGS DAY" Faculty and students may wear their favorite professional sport’s team shirts and jerseys to show they are part of the Drug Free team making healthy life style choices each and every day!
