China Trip Day Four - The School
A very tired group ate breakfast and boarded the bus to visit our sister school in China. This school has a staff of about 300 teachers and the total enrollment is close to 7000 students. We gathered in a conference room and our students got to meet the host students.
These students were selected out of 7000 to host an American student and have them follow them in their daily activities. Each family was planning a special meal and hoped to do some sight seeing later. Once the introductions were made they paired off and followed their Chinese host to their classes.
After the students left the sixth grade came outside in the courtyard to do their daily exercise. Over 2500 students line up in complete silence and perform a series of activities to get the body moving in the morning. It was an awesome sight.
While the students did a shadow schedule, the teachers and principals met with us to discuss educational issues and the differences between our system and the Chinese system.
We went to lunch one more time as a group, did a little sightseeing then headed back to the school to have the host families take each student to their home. Mrs Clark made sure everyone got a big hug goodbye and the obligatory one word reminder "behave"! :-) The lunch was at a famous restaurant that specializes in serving dumplings (dough with pork and a variety of vegetables inside). Each student is really becoming an expert at chop sticks.
The students had to go with their host families when we got back from lunch so didn't have time for messages but below are the pictures of each student and their hosts.
