Counseling Program : Student Success Skills Program for 4th & 5th Grade Students

All 4th and 5th grade students at Highland Elementary will be participating in the Student Success Skills Program which will be presented in ten weekly sessions.

The purpose of the Student Success Skills Program is to help students build and improve certain critical learning, social and self-management skills. Everyone can improve in these areas.

This goal focused and skill building program is about developing the tools considered necessary to be successful in school and with peer relations. The program focuses on two important areas:

a) How to make school work easier and more interesting by developing goal setting, organization and memory skills, and how to increase/maintain motivation by monitoring academic progress.

and

b) How to develop life skills, which include social and team work skills and how to manage conflicts, stress and anger.

By maintaining healthy patterns students insure that they have the high energy and positive mood needed to excel in school.

Participation in this program, which focuses on the skills needed for academic and social success, will help lead to better academic performance and greater ability in working cooperatively with others. Again, these are skills everyone can improve in and are important throughout our entire life.
