Homework Policy

Homework is essential. It requires responsibility, organization, time management, and gives practice and reinforcement in each area of study. Your child is expected to complete all assignments neatly, thoroughly, and on time. I expect all homework to be done in pencil unless otherwise stated, in cursive writing beginning in November, and questions should be answered in complete sentences.

Any work which is not done neatly will have to be redone. Students are expected to do their own work and only ask for help when they have given it their best effort. The approximate time a fifth grader is expected to do homework is 45-60 minutes per night. I would like to make 15 minutes of that time reading. The frequency of assignments will vary depending on the topic we are studying and the need for practice and reinforcement.  If an assignment is not turned in on time the student will:

1.) Fill out an "OOPS" slip.
2). Staple the slip to the homework assignment and show it to me for a signature.
3.)  He/She will complete the work during a free period, at lunch, or that evening.
4.)  The student will receive -5 points each day the assignment is not turned in after the due date.  After 3 days, the student will receive a zero and a parent letter will be sent home.
