Emergency Drill Summary PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 August 2009

The recently completed Emergency Drill at the J.T Waugh Elementary School on November 5th met with great success.  This live drill was a first for our community and Western New York.  Multiple agencies were involved and used this as a training opportunity as well.  These agencies were:

Town Of Evans Police

Erie Count Sheriffs

Erie County Sheriffs K9 Unit

Erie County Sheriffs Bomb Unit

New York State Police

Rail Road Police

Niagara Frontier Transit Authority Police

Lake Erie Beach Fire Company

Angola Fire Company

Evans Center Fire Company

Rural Metro

Lake Shore Central Transportation Department

Seneca nation Of Indians Transportation Department

This drill was in accordance with provisions of the Emergency Response Plan for the J.T. Waugh School.  Various levels of emergency response protocol within the plan were tested.  The drill culminated with an Evacuation to the First Congregational Church of Christ with the assistance of Reverend Jack Bacon, and student dismissal from that location.

The emergency responders on site were pleased with the reactions of the staff and students at the school.  They were equally impressed with the procedures in place and were grateful for the opportunity to participate and to offer suggestions on how to improve the plan.

The J.T. Waugh Building Planning Committee with the help of Lieutenant Tom George of the Town of Evans Police planned the drill.  The school will continue to work with Lieutenant George to assure the safety of everyone within the J.T. Waugh School.

JT Waugh Presidential Podcasts PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 13 February 2009

Our fifth grade students have recently completed researching and learning about our past Presidents and have prepared enhanced podcasts that I know you will enjoy.  In order to complete what you will view the students researched details and accomplishments of their president, wrote a script with their partner, found images to support the script, and finally using garage band software assembled the podcast and added appropriate music and sound effects.  This project truly represents what students can accomplish in a 21st century classroom.

It is my hope that when parents ask their child about what they did in school our children respond by proudly providing their digital creations to their parents via the internet.  Welcome to your child's world!   Enjoy their podcasts. Their videos are available by clicking here to enter our video section in the document and download center.

 SNOW SHOEING  IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Students in Grades 1 - 5 will be participating in snow shoeing beginning on Monday, January 12, 2009.  So please be sure to send your child to school properly dressed for the weather on days when they have PE classes.  In order to participate, they will need to wear winter coats, hats, gloves, boots, and winter pants (i.e. warm ups, wind pants) if possible.  Jeans if at all possible, should not be worn because when they get wet they stay wet all day long.
