The Lake Shore Wrestling team won their home opening dual meet against the Starpoint Spartans, 47-23. The team was led by pins from Matt Valliere, Rafael Sanjurjo, John Inglut, Pat Mix, and Joe Catalano. Brett Colling earned a technical fall. Other wins were earned by Emerson Haynes and Brandon Ravel, while Zack Heater won in a heavyweight exhibition.
The JV wrestlers had a successful night as well. John Novak, Kevin Zybert, Glenn Millen, Matt Gruka, and Rory Jimmerson all had pins in their matches.
This was the most impressive opening day for the Eagles in recent memory and the team hopes to carry the success into the weekend when they participate in the Maple Groove Classic.
The Lake Shore Wrestlers attended the Maple Grove Classic last weekend. The boys fought hard to finish 2nd out of 16 teams. Pat Mix finished with a tournament championship and Marc Muscarella finished 2nd. Captain John Inglut, Matt Valliere, Mike Kukoleca, and Brandon Ravel all finished 3rd. Rafeal Sanjurjo also finished in 4th place. Now the boys look to increase their record to 2-0 in Amherst this Wednesday.
The
Lady Eagles Varsity Basketball Team began the 2009 – 2010 season by defeating
City Honors 29 – 17 in a non league match up last night. The Eagles came out strong in the first half
with a 21 – 9 lead. Unfortunately in
the second half the Eagles missed many opportunities to score, missing
uncontested layups and jump shots.
Turnovers also led to the Eagles lack of offense in the second
half. Senior captain Brittany Mazzu led
the team with 12 points, which were all scored in the first half. She also had 11 steals for the Eagles. Senior Alissa Schmidt added 6 points for the
Eagles and had a strong defensive game.
Kalie Michalski, Katherine Caboot, Jessica Ludwig, Brooke Walker, and Michaela
Stepniak all added points for the Eagles.
The Eagles next home game is Tuesday, December 8th against Starpoint. Come support the team!
The JV Lady Eagles Basketball beat City Honors 50-8 on Thursday night at home. Right from the start of the game they came out ready to play and were aggressive on both sides of the court. This was defiantly a collaborated win for the team. Every player scored to contribute to the win. Lauren Gotsch and Josilyn Benton led the team with 10 points a piece. Lauren also led the team with rebounds pulling down 9. Jordan DeMartino an 8th grader had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Liz Pickard had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Frankie Harris, Courtney Black, and Mackenzie Ciciara all had 4 points a piece to contribute while Miranda Aikin, Alicia Alquire, and Molly Parker contributed 2 points a piece. The Lady Eagles next game is this Tuesday, December 8th at 5:00 and is home. Come help cheer on your Lady Eagles!
