Red Ribbon Week!

During the week of October 23-31 the country celebrated National Red Ribbon Week.  All of our schools participated in many different activities encouraging students to commit to living drug free lives.  Here at W.T. Hoag, students kicked off the week by releasing red balloons, symbolizing their pledge to be drug free for life.  On Tuesday, faculty and staff from both W.T. Hoag and J.T. Waugh Elementary played in the first annual “Red Ribbon Basketball Game” against the Evans Police team.  The game ended in a tie, and there was great participation from the schools and community.  Canned food was collected at the game for Operation Good Neighbor.  On Thursday, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students walked into the village of Angola to “plant the promise,” planting red tulips on Main street.  When the tulips bloom in the spring students will be reminded of the drug-free promise they made.  Students and staff embraced the spirit of this week by participating in fun themed clothing days all week long.

W.T. Hoag "Employee of the Week"

By Paula J. Eastman, Principal

A new incentive program was started this year at Wm. T. Hoag to recognize the efforts of the faculty and staff as they so often go above and beyond the expectation of their position. Each week staff is encouraged to nominate each other for the extras that people do. The nominations are deposited in the office for the weekly random drawing, which takes place on Friday afternoon.  The reward is Mrs. Eastman’s parking spot for the following week.  That’s right…. the “Employee of the Week” will enjoy having the reserve spot closest to the entrance for one full week of school.  This privilege will be a sure hit in the winter months ahead.

In addition, all nomination forms are collected and sorted. Staff will receive their envelope at the end of the year and be able to see all the ways that they were able to make a positive impact on our school.

Pictured are the first four Employees of the Week
:

Paul Hornberger (week #2 nominated by Paula Eastman), Terri Stojanvich (week # 3 nominated by Paula Eastman), Debi Dinkuhn (week #1 nominated by Paulette Grabowski), and Gina Gartley (week #4 nominated by Bill Sills Jr.)

"Hail to the Chief"

Students in Mrs. Hackbarth's and Mr. Hornberger's fifth grade classes recently held a presidential celebration at the William T. Hoag Elementary School.  Families and guests were treated to wonderful portrayals of our past presidents' lives through carefully prepared speeches.  Informational posters were also presented, based on student research that creatively illustrated the lives and accomplishments of each president.  We couldn't be prouder of our kids' efforts on this very rewarding patriotic project.
