ANTHONY J. SCHMIDT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
NOVEMBER
PARENT LETTER
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I want to begin by thanking all of you for
your support with our fundraiser. Your
hard work and effort really paid off for our students. With your help, our profit was nearly
$7,000. The funds raised will help to
bring educational programming to AJ and to offset the costs of some of our
building programs. Thank you again for
your support; it is truly appreciated!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Today we welcomed students back to school after our holiday recess. Everyone was glad to see their friends and perhaps a little less happy about returning to work. As I walked the halls this morning, teachers and students alike were busy getting back into their routine.
Next week, students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will take the New York State English Language Arts assessment. In grades 3 and 5 the ELA tests consist of a section of multiple-choice and short response questions based on reading selections and a section containing multiple-choice and short response questions based on a listening selection. The second section also contains an editing task.
The ELA for 4th graders consists of a section containing multiple-choice questions based on reading selections, a second section containing short-response and extended-response questions based on a listening selection, and a third section containing short-response and extended-response questions based on paired reading selections.
As you can imagine, our teachers and students have worked hard to prepare for this assessment. A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast are just two things students can do to get ready for each day of testing. Testing will begin on Tuesday, January 13th.
If you have any questions or are in need of additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I can be reached via email at
