Wednesday, 29 October 2008
As our children prepare for Trick or Treating, please review safety tips for Halloween with your child.  If you have high bandwidth Internet Access, you can check these tips from Expert Village.com.  The URL is http://www.expertvillage.com/video-series/2100_halloween-safety.htm

Brant Elementary will have an assembly with Officer Hoak who will be reviewing Halloween safety with our students.  This list of do's and don'ts will help keep kids safe.
  1. Avoid dark houses
  2. Bring a flashlight
  3. Make sure costumes don't drag and trip you up
  4. Make sure you can breath and see if wearing a mask - better - don't wear a mask
  5. Don't eat any candy until your parents have inspected it and say it is okay.
  6. Choose a trick or treat bag that will help you be seen
  7. Plan your route in advance with your parents
  8. Remember rules for safely crossing the street or exiting from your vehicle
  9. Wear light colored costumes and reflective tape so you can be seen at night
  10. Bring your parents with you as you trick-or-treat
  11. Wear appropriate shoes for walking
  12. Be respectful of others and the property of others
Have a safe and happy Halloween!j0354725.gif

Apple Farm hosts Brant students for tour PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 10 October 2008
j0406533.gifStudents in Mrs. Grennell, Mrs. Zeffiro and Mrs. Govenettio's classes took a field trip to Bence's Apple Farm and learned all about apples and growing apple trees.  Understanding plants cycles from seeds through fruit bearing is a concept learned in the early elementary science.  Children were able to purchase apples to bring home after the tour.  Today's science lesson certainly had a delicious ending!

Brant 5th Graders create video training for KidsVote08 PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 10 October 2008
Mrs. Mary Desing, student teacher of Mrs. Mary Brumagin, recently taught fifth grade students at Brant Elementary about the upcoming elections. As the culminating activity in the unit, students completed a video presentation as part of a community service project. Students studied the voting process and the importance of voting to citizenship, learned about the Electoral College, political parties and platforms, and then created a voting booth for the student body. This project gave students the opportunity to develop public speaking and speech writing skills. The video the fifth graders created will be used to instruct other students in the building about the voting process, and prepare them to cast their ballots as well.  To view the video, click  the link for More....
