It is with great sorrow that the Lake Shore Central School District announces the death of current Board Member Mr. Joseph LoGalbo. Elected to a 3-year term, Mr. LoGalbo has been a Board of Education Member since July 2007 and served with pride, professionalism, and purpose. He was a true advocate for students and their ability to earn a quality education. He will be missed by the entire Lake Shore School Community.
Obituary:
Joseph LoGalbo, a member of the Lake Shore Central School Board, died Monday January 19, 2009 in Buffalo General Hospital. He was 75.
An Angola resident, Mr. LoGalbo was a graduate of Lafayette High School and Hilbert College. He earned his master's degree in psychology from the University of Buffalo at age 58.
Mr. LoGalbo was a Marine Corps veteran who was based in the Philippines during the Korean War.
A crew coordinator and union representative at the Ford Stamping Plant in Woodlawn, Mr. LoGalbo was the editor of the Local 897 Press and was an AMVETS member. He retired from Ford in 1998.
He was a former board president of the Community Concern in Evans and also held membership in the Evans Lions organization.
Mr. LoGalbo, who received a kidney transplant in 2003, participated in the 2004 World Transplant Games in Minneapolis.
An avid follower of politics and supporter of President Barack Obama, Mr. LoGalbo was the proud grandfather of a paid staff member of Obama's Pinellas County, Fla. campaign office.
His wife of more than 40 years, Dorothy Whiteside LoGalbo, died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Brad; two daughters, Debra Porto and Diana Biela; two brothers, Russell and Richard; and five sisters, Mary Bartalotta, Josephine Learn, Mariane Meyers, Gloria Manzone and Ann Gagliana.
A military memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of Evans, 7431 Erie Road, Derby.
Friends may call Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Latimore-Schiavone Funeral Home, 8434 North Main Street, Angola, NY. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 24, 2009 at the First Church of Evans at 10 a.m.
