Anthony J. Schmidt Elementary School is located on Lake Shore Road.  Our school is situated across from Lake Erie in Angola on the Lake.  As you enter our driveway you will notice that we are fortunate to neighbor the firefighters from the Lake Erie Beach Volunteer Fire Company.

Built in 1962, our school has 28 classrooms, library, computer lab, gymnasium/auditorium and cafeteria.  As a school to 260 students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade, our facility is complete with instructional tools, equipment and technology that helps to foster a love for learning in young children.

We continue to emphasize positive behavior in our school. Several specific programs have been initiated to reinforce responsibility and respect. The first program relates to the enforcement of five (5) general rules to be followed throughout the schools. They are "At AJ Schmidt we show respect by...

  1. keeping our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves
  2. following teacher directions the first time they are given
  3. being responsible for things we say and do
  4. being safe in our school
  5. listening to others and using kind words

A second program centers on monthly themes that encourage positive characteristics. These themes are:

  • September - Citizenship
  • October - Respect
  • November - Responsibility
  • December - Caring
  • January - Tolerance
  • February - Honesty
  • March - Trustworthiness
  • April - Diligence
  • May - Courage
  • June - Fairness

The Character Education themes are linked to our “Soaring Eagles” recognition program. Students are selected for the "Soring Eagles" program for demonstrating in an exemplary manner the pillars of Character Education. Classroom teachers write a recommendation that is sent home to the parents. This recommendation describes the child’s successes and invites that child to attend a special breakfast with the principal.

A third program promotes desirable behavior by ‘catching students’ being good. The Caught Being Good program is available to any staff person that observes a child doing the right thing. When a youngster is ‘caught’ the staff person writes them up with information telling who the student is and what the positive behavior was. Then the student’s picture is taken and posted in the building.

While this gives you a quick glimpse of some of the good things at our school, I encourage you to learn more by viewing the monthly newsletter, visiting the school, or giving us a call at any time! I hope this school year is a positive one for both you and your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 926-2351
