The Kinship Navigator Program is a statewide program that provides information and referrals for grandparents and other relatives raising children.
In New York State alone close to 400,000 children are living with and being raised by their grandparents or other relatives. Kinship caregivers are presented with many unique and special challenges. The Kinship Navigator is a specialized resource available to provide comprehensive information on kinship issues. They assist with such topics as legal rights, available services, and financial assistance through "child-only" grants. Professionals and caregivers can visit the web site at www.nysnavigator.org where legal fact sheets are provided along with local kinship resources and flyers or call toll free 877-454-6463.
AARP NY also offers free presentations on kinship care issues and coordinates meetings of the NYS Kincare Coalition. For information call 212-407-3784.
