The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams opened their seasons at the West Seneca Invitational this Saturday.   Both teams performed very well and a number of runners posted personal best times.   On the girls’ side, Senior Mikelle Cala covered the 3.1 mile course in 19.58, leading the Lady Eagles with an 8 th place finish.  Kim Vona broke into the top 20 by grabbing the 18 th overall spot in a time of 20.29.   Anne Cala finished in 49th with a time of 22.09 and Megan Dillon set a personal best 23.41 en route to a 67th place finish.  Eighth grade standout Miriam Ridge posted a personal best 24.36 to grab the fifth scoring spot for the Lady Eagles.  Ashley Cournyea and Amanda Arrigo closed out the Varsity squad and both girls posted personal best times.   The team finished 9 th out of 13 teams. 
The Boys team was led by sophomore Brad Martynowicz who covered the 3.1 mile course in 19 minutes and 10 seconds, taking 51 st overall.  Sophomore Andrew Ridge followed close behind taking the 55th spot in 19.25; Senior Daryn Nephew grabbed 60th place with a time of 19.35; Gary Ippolito brought home the fourth team placing with a time of 20.04 despite suffering a mid-race injury.  The fifth scoring spot for Lake Shore was claimed by seventh grade prodigy Joshua Wheeler.  Josh posted an impressive time of 20.38, good enough for 73rd overall.  Senior Kenny Terramiggi and Junior Mike Dingeldey both ran strong races as the Boys’ team finished 11 th out of 12 teams.
The Cross Country squad will be competing against Hamburg at Eden this Tuesday.   Please come out and support the team!
