Oh what a busy, wonderful learning week we had. Highland Elementary joined in the nationwide celebration of RED RIBBON WEEK to show our commitment to living drugfree and healthy lives. Faculty and students displayed their promise with daily themes and activities. The classroom counseling programs in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd and fifth continued.
The students continued to learn about personal space, the "eyes, ears, mind and heart" of listening, and how we show respect each day. RESPECT was our Character Education theme in October.
Kindergarten read a story from the Alpha Pets series focusing on the letter E with "Emmy the Exaggerating Elephant" learning about the importance of moderation.
Through a Pumsy story the first graders continued building their resiliency skills and thought about how to handle things they wish were different.
In 3rd grade, the topic of bullying is giving the students the opportunity to learn important information and share their thoughts.
Fifth grade students, through the Life Skills program with WNY United and Student Success Skills with their School Counselor, are exploring goal setting. They participated in several activities to increase their self awareness recognizing this as an important step in successful goal setting.
We are looking forward to November- leaves, learning and giving thanks! Our districtwide Character Education theme is RESPONSIBILITY.
