Dear Parents/Guardian:

The make-up day for school pictures is November 19, 2009.

Our fifth grade students will be taking the New York State Social Studies Assessment on November 16th and 17th.  It is very important that these students be in attendance on those two dates and that they are well rested and nourished prior to taking the test.

It is difficult to believe that November has arrived and in just a few short weeks the first trimester will come to an end.  As we did last year, we are asking parents to participate in Parent/Teacher Conferences to discuss your child's progress and their report card grades earned during the first trimester.  This "standards based" report card will be distributed to parents during Parent/Teacher Conferences on either December 10th or December 11th.  There will be a noon dismissal on both of these days.
Many parents have already signed up for conferences, but if you have not, you will be hearing from your child's teacher in the very near future to schedule a conference.  During the conference, your child's teacher will provide detailed information regarding his or her progress that cannot be indicated on a paper report.  You will leave the conference with a better understanding of the report card and a clear understanding of how your child is progressing towards meeting the New York State Learning Standards.
So much has changed in the educational system in the past several years.  We feel that both you and your children will benefit as a result of your attendance at the "Report Card Conference".  Thank you for your continued support.  On behalf of the faculty, we look forward to meeting with you at the report card conference.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make our Fall Fest such a huge success!  We had over 300 people in attendance!!  Congratulations to Mrs. Valle and Mrs. Tempski for their prize-winning pies.  The judges sure had a diffcult time deciding, as all the entries were so good.  Next year's contest should bring even more delicious challengers.  The Browning Family won the pumpkin-decorating contest with their "Haunted House" entry.
Our Hoag families are so creative; it is wonderful to have so many of you participate in our activities.  The Fall Fest Committee should be very proud of their efforts especially without access to our gym.  You pulled off a great event with the space available.

Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!  Working with the faculty, staff, students and parents of Wm. T. Hoag is one of the many things that I am thankful for.

Mrs. Paula J. Eastman
Principal
