ART DEPARTMENT MISSION
As we strive to open the minds of our students to new opportunities and discoveries through the visual language of Art, the Lake Shore Central School District Art Department embraces the following goals:
- To develop and expand students' critical thinking and creative problem solving
- To develop and expand students' knowledge and skills to express and communicate ideas imaginatively
- To develop and expand students' awareness of Art's unique influence and value in all aspects of education and society

Senee '08 Studio in Art
NEW YORK STATE STANDARDS FOR THE ARTS
I. Students will actively engage in creating works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes, and metaphors. Students will understand and use sensory elements, organizational principles, and expressive images to communicate their own ideas in works of art.
II. Students will know and use a variety of visual art materials, techniques, and processes. Students will know about resources and opportunities for participation in visual arts in the community (exhibitions, library, museums, and galleries) and will be aware of vocational options available in the visual arts.
III. Students will respond to and analyze, interpret, and evaluate works of art using the language of art criticism.
IV . Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic communication. By exploring art and artifacts from various historical periods and world cultures, students will discover the roles that art plays in the lives of people of a given time and place.
