SCENERY CREW
The Lake Shore Central High School Art Department plays a significant role in the annual production of the high school musical. In the past, the audience has been transported to the South Seas with woven tapestries, roamed the plains of Oklahoma with hand carved foam sets, and viewed the story of “Once Upon A Mattress”, as the storybook pages swept open before their eyes.
A select group of students work diligently, from September to opening night in March, to transform the lowly stage into a visual feast of color, textures and emotion. The perfect backdrop is set to showcase the many talents of Lake Shore students.
The students in the scenery crew begin their task with the collective brainstorming of ideas. Next, scale models and drawings are created to visualize the proposed set. Lastly, students construct and paint the final sets for the production. Work is done under the guidance of the musical director and the High School art teachers.
This year’s musical production is “Music Man”. We are proud to announce that this year’s student art director is Anna Pingitore. Miss Pingitore will be developing the marquette for the stage and overseeing the various components that will make this years’ all high school production a flying success.
FURNITURE AUCTION
“Furniture for Fancy”
Silent Auction to benefit the Lake Shore Art Scholarship Fund
The art students of Mrs. Sonnenberg’s Advanced Painting course and Mrs. Belliotti’s Sculpture course create artworks on small furnishings such as tables, chairs, and bookstands. The artworks vary in form and artistic approach; some are still functional as furniture, others are to be enjoyed just for their aesthetic qualities. Each piece is a unique artwork reflective of the art student’s interest and personal interpretation.
As a benefit to the Lake Shore Art Teachers Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarship money and awards to graduating Lake Shore art students, the artworks are available for purchase by the public through a silent auction. The pieces are on view in the hallway during the musical and will remain available through the last performance. Anyone interested in purchasing an artwork is asked to write their name, phone number, and bid on the bottom of the bid form attached to each table. The highest bidder on each list will be notified of their purchase early the following week.
On behalf of the Lake Shore Art Department, we would like to thank all of the people who have work so hard to make this a successful fundraiser…for the people who donate the furniture, to the parents who support their child’s artistic endeavor, to the students who labor long hours to create their artworks, and finally, to the public for supporting this Scholarship Fund with their patronage. Thank you!
ART CLUB
The purpose of the Art Club is to provide an opportunity for any interested high school students to meet after school to work on special art projects and to share art experiences with their fellow students.
The goals of the art club will be to:
1. Provide an opportunity for art students to further their artmaking experiences by challenging themselves and taking more risks than they would in class
2. Allow students not currently enrolled in an art class to pursue art interests
3. Provide service to the school and community
4. Allow students a forum to share their creative endeavors with other students

COMMUNITY SERVICE
This year the Lake Shore Senior High Art Department, in collaboration with a local service agency, will be painting murals for a preschool program. Mrs. Belliotti, Ms. Gibson, and Mrs. Sonnenberg will be working with a select group of very talented students to participate in this community service project.
The project will consist of approximately 20 murals, each panel measuring 6’x4’. The panels will be painted with acrylic paints, incorporating the artistic styles of Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, and Vincent Van Gogh. The inspiration for the imagery will be based upon the storybook, “Peter Pan”. Each student will be responsible for designing and painting one panel, while working in collaboration with each other and the children of the preschool program.
The project will begin in October and continue through May 2007, when the murals will be presented to the agency. The participating students and their parents/guardians will be invited to attend a reception at the center recognizing the installation of the artwork in the centers’ hallways.
- Family Fun Walk
Students create and design tee-shirts and billboards to support this community event.
