Tuesday, 02 January 2007
At the recent Annual NYSCATE Conference in Rochester, NY, Mr. Scott Smith received the Outstanding Principal of the Year award. Mr. Smith was nominated by Mrs. Susan Ciminelli, District Technology Coordinator and member of the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education. This competitive award is given to those school district leaders who show leadership and vision in implementing technology in their school or district.

To be considered for this award, a letter of nomination must be received from an NYSCATE member detailing how the New York State principal has actively promoted technology and supported the work of his/her technology coordinator to further technology initiatives in the building in meeting the goals of the NYSCATE mission statement.
In the previous year, Mr. Smith's leadership was evident in several technology initiatives. He was instrumental in the implementation of an Internet safety program from WebWiseKids entitled "Missing" for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and contributed to the success of this initiative. Mr. Smith supported Mrs. Ciminelli's goal to train all Middle School teachers in using VideoStreaming instructional resource from WNED by developing a schedule for her to meet with teachers in small groups. Additionally, his assistance, leadership, and positive attitude during this transitional period with a new student management system has helped make this difficult undertaking easier.

Congratulations, Mr. Smith, for your leadership and for earning this prestigious award.
