The Inside Track for parents of:

All Students -
Good luck on exams!

Students with Disabilities - If your child qualifies for testing accommodations it is important that you understand how using accommodations can affect the ASVAB examination.  If your child is a Junior and is taking the exam solely as a career assessment test, then accommodations can be used.  If your child is considering entering the military, they should take the exam without accommodations.  The military will not accept the test results for military entrance if accommodations are used.

Juniors and Seniors -  NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced their Lifeguard Qualifying Exam test dates.  If you are 16 or older and are interested in becoming a lifeguard, see Mr. Tomasik for a list of exam dates and times.  You must pre-register for the exams and you should bring your own pocket mask to the exam.

Career Corner -
During my conversations with Freshman one thing that often surprised them is the amount of education that would be required if they want to be a teacher.  New York currently requires public school teachers to have a Master's degree.  If your child expresses an interest in teaching, have them check out  the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook description of the teaching profession at http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos069.htm.
