The University of Rochester is offering a summer residential program called Rochester On Campus that allows high school students the opportunity to choose an area of study they would like to pursue and to explore life on a college campus.  Tuition fees are $2,300 to $6,000, depending on the student's chosen course of study (10% discount to children/grandchildren of alumni.)  For more information visit www.rochester.edu/osp

Freshmen - If your child is taking earth science, check to make sure they are caught up with their labs.  Many 9th grade students do not fully realize how important the lab component is.  If you child does not meet the lab requirement, they will not be allowed to sit for the Regent's exam in June.

Sophomores - We have met with the majority of the 10th grade students during their Biology classes for the presentation about career opportunities available related to science and math.  Because of the snow day prior to winter break we will be meeting with the remainder of classes this week.  As part of the presentation students will also be completing the Career Exploration Inventory (CEI) to highlight students' career interests that are aligned with the 16 National Career Clusters.  The inventory will be mailed home to parents.  Use it to discuss career choices with your child.

Juniors - Students who took the ASVAB should go to the distance learning lab on March 13th during A block for a special presentation to discuss their results.

Seniors - Attention Parents of Seniors
It's hard to believe that it's time to start thinking about Graduation!  Catalogs and order forms for graduation announcements and related materials were distributed to seniors during lunch periods on Friday, February 16th.  If you child did not receive these items they are available from the Senior Class Advisers; Mr. Frew (room 114) or Mr. Salerno (room 222).  All orders for these items must be placed on Tuesday, March 6th.  A representative from Herff-Jones will be here during lunch periods to accept prepaid orders and answer any questions students may have.

What is Apprentice Training? If you like the challenge of learning a new skill, if you have good aptitude, and if you like to earn while you learn, a registered apprentice training program could be for you.
Apprenticeship is the process of learning a skilled occupation through both on-the-job training (practical, paid experience) and learning the related technical knowledge in a classroom. You must be 18 years old, or be 16 years old with parental approval.
The length of training varies from one to six years, depending on the occupation. Training is given under the guidance of experienced master workers.
