The Inside Track for parents of:
All Students -
Selected Chamber and Symphony Orchestra students will be attending a
special concert by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at Kleinhan's
Music Hall on Wednesday, March 28th (day 1). They will be leaving at
9:00 a.m. and returning to the high school at approximately 1:00 p.m.
This is an all-Beethoven concert entitled "The Jefferson Era" and will
be a cross-curricular event covering music, history, government,
architecture and art.
As usual, students will be responsible for work missed.
Juniors who turned in their permission slips will be attending the
National Association of College Admissions College Fair on Wednesday,
March 21, 2007 at the Buffalo Convention Center.
A reminder about Lake Shore's attendance policy:
Students are allowed to make up class work for both "excused" and
"unexcused" absences. NOT TRUANCIES. If the work is completed, the
excused absence is removed from the accumulated total of absences. An
unexcused absence or truancy, can not be eliminated.
Students must follow the "yellow card" procedures to complete the make-up work process.
Scheduling (10th & 11th):
Students who missed the presentation in 10th and 11th grade will have a
makeup session on Wednesday March 21st B block in the computer lab
room 125
Freshmen -
Current 9th graders will receive a mailing home to complete a
preliminary career plan and input their requests with their parents
on-line. Those forms will go out by end of week with paper work due
back to our office by April 4th.
Sophomores -
Counselors are currently meeting with sophomores who are considering a
career and technical program next year. This meeting is important to
determine if the student has enough credits to take a vocational
program and still graduate on time. If your child is considering a
career and technical program next year make sure they have turned in
the career and technical program application into the counseling office.
Juniors -
Counselors will be pushing into English classes from the 22th to the
26th for a joint English/Counselor presentation on the seven habits of
highly effective people. The students will learn about the seven
habits and complete a group project relating the habits to career
clusters and the college exploration process. Counselors will be
meeting with all Juniors individually to review course selection prior
to spring break.
Seniors -
One of my seniors received a letter from Buffalo State College
requesting additional information. Three days later he received a
letter saying that because he did not turn in the information they were
deactivating his application. Luckily, he came to me and I was able to
call the admissions office and clear up the problem. Please remember
that if you ever receive something like this from a college, to see us
before panicking. It is our relationship with college admissions
representatives that makes us a valuable resource for you!
