The
Lake Shore Central School District has extended the attendance requirement for
all students. Students are now expected
to be in attendance at school through the age of 17, unless they have full time
employment.
The Board of Education
modified its policy at their regular Board of Education meeting on August 21st,
2007. The Superintendent, Jeffrey R.
Rabey stated, “This policy change is effective immediately and demonstrates the
commitment of the Board of Education at improving the graduation rate and
supporting the efforts of the teachers and administrators.”
The adjusted policy now
reads, "The Board of Education will
require minors from sixteen to seventeen years of age who are not employed
full-time to attend full-time instruction until the end of the school year
in which the student turns seventeen (17) years of age".
This policy also supports the newly established Board
of Education goal, “Beginning with June 30th, 2008, the graduation
rate will increase each year until it reaches 100% in 2017.”
Rabey commented, "Our focus is on the achievement of all of our
students and there are several initiatives that have been put in place
for this new school year and beyond, to accomplish this goal."
