WOW! Lots of great information this week.  Take a look....

9/18/07-9/24/07
The Inside Track for parents of:

All Students -

Scheduling - The only students who should be coming down to the counseling center for schedule changes are those who have errors on their schedule because they are scheduled in a class that they have already passed, or are not in a class that they need for graduation.

Freshmen:
Q: I see college admissions reps listed under the Senior section.  Does my child need to be a senior in order to meet with an admissions representative.
A: Admissions representatives are used to meeting with Seniors, but the best time to meet with one may be right now!  Your child can speak to the representative and learn what they will need to accomplish to be accepted at that college in four years.  The representatives are the ones that make the admissions decisions so they can tell the student exactly what they are looking for.  If your child wants to meet with a representative ham them get a pass from the guidance office.  On that day, have them dress as they would for a job interview.

Sophomores:
Q: My child failed English 9 last year and did not pass it in summer school, but it is not on their schedule this year.  Instead they are in English 10.  Does that mean they do not need to take English 9 again?
A:They need to go back into English 9! In order to graduate from high school a student must meet all Regents requirements.  The counselors review schedules for accuracy, but if we missed something, please let us know!

Juniors & Seniors:
On Thursday, September 27, the Western New York Consortium of Higher Education will be visiting Lake Shore during blocks A & B in the cafeteria.  Eighteen local colleges and M&T bank will have tables set up to hand out information and materials to students.  This is an excellent opportunity for students to meet college representatives especially if they are still undecided in their college choices.  All Juniors and Seniors will be called down to visit with the college representatives attending this event.

SAT prep course! We have registration forms available in the counseling center for a SAT prep course at Trocaire College.  The courses will take place on Wednesdays 10/3,10/10,10/17,10/24&10/31 from 6:00-9:00 PM.  The fee is $119.00.

Seniors:
The Senior group picture will be taken Friday, October 19th during A block (weather permitting.)

Senior Presentations:
Presentations will be given by counselors the first week of October in all Government and Economics classes.  Counselors will cover: college application process and deadlines, admissions requirements, SAT & ACT, NCAA clearinghouse, scholarships and financial aid, class rank/G.P.A., yearbook picture deadlines, and much much more.  Your child will not want to miss this.  They will be getting handouts, booklets, an unofficial transcript and other materials to bring home.
