Our Character
Education Theme for October is Respect
The weekly quotations are:
Week 1: Respect
other people and they will respect you.
Week 2: Learn
to respect others by practicing respect everyday.
Week 3: I
can make a difference if I show respect for other people.
Week 4: What
is one good thing that others respect about you?
Parents
During the Month of October
students will join their bus drivers for lunch to foster a sense of family on
the bus. Several years ago the J.T.
Waugh Building Planning Committee decided to focus on reducing negative student
behavior on school bus rides. What
resulted is a program that has been extremely effective in preventing problems
that sometimes occur on the bus. Please
make note of the schedule for bus lunches on the calendar
Older children in grades 4 and 5
will be asked to volunteer to become BUS BUDDIES. Our BUS BUDDIES wear a special tag and
provide guidance to our younger riders.
If a student has a problem on the bus they simply seek out one of their BUS
BUDDIES and discuss the problem with them.
The BUS BUDDY sits with the child and provides a safe ride home for the
student with the concern. In this way
problems are prevented rather than reacted to afterwards.
The children eagerly compete on a
monthly basis to earn "Bus Of The Month" honors each month during the school
year. When selected, the students that
ride on the "Bus of The Month" are treated to another lunch with their driver. Our children enjoy the opportunity to see
their driver for lunch and as a result significantly fewer problems occur on
our busses.
Reminder To All Our Parents: Dismissal is a time for much activity in our building. It is so important for us to be sure that
all our students are on their way to the correct destination. That is why it is so vital to be sure
students have a note and/or the office is notified early in the
day. Last minute phone calls to the
office should be reserved for emergency situations only. Your assistance in this procedure is most
appreciated!
