FIRST PTG Meeting of the year was a success!  Thank you to all who attended.
After reviewing all of the surveys concerning PTG meetings it has been determined that the best time for a meeting would be 7:00 p.m.  We are going to rotate the nights that the meetings are held.  The next meeting will be Thursday, November 15th in the library.  We hope that with the change in days – this will enable new parent/staff to attend the meetings.  The election of new officers will be held at the May meeting – there will be several positions available, attending at least 2 meetings is necessary to run for a position!

**Principal’s Message**

Dear Parents,
Thank you to all parents who attended the Parent Informational Open House.  It was a wonderful and informative evening.  Great beginning partnerships were formed between teachers and parents.  I encourage you communicate with us regularly, as we are here to assist you!
Please take every opportunity to review appropriate bus behavior with your children.  Safety remains our number one priority.  Students must remain in their seats, use low voices and not invade the personal space of other riders.  Please maintain high expectations of your children to make appropriate and safe choices on the bus supports us in our mission.
There are many opportunities to participate and become involved.  I hope to see you at many of the upcoming events and meetings!
Noted Clinical Psychologist Sol Gordon reminds us that when it comes to our children, “they really don’t care what you know, they only want to know that you care!”

Highland is Book-ing It!
The students at Highland have begun the Book It Reading Incentive Program, sponsored by Pizza Hut.  The Book It Program kicked off October 1st and runs through March 31st.
Teachers have set monthly reading goals based on grade levels.  Students who meet the monthly reading goals each month will be given a certificate that can be taken to Pizza Hut, where to be recognized for reading with a Book It Card and backpack clip on their first visit. On return visits, students receive a new sticker for each additional goal met.  They will also receive a free one topping Personal Pan Pizza!  If all goals are met for all six months of the program, students will be identified as an All Star Reader and can visit Pizza Hut for an All Star Reader Award!
In addition if students complete all six months or only miss one month, they will be invited to an Ice-cream Party, given by the Highland Reading Incentives Committee in April.   HAPPY READING and here’s hoping to see all Highland students at the Ice-cream Party!

Great Start Walking Program
Monday, October 29th, will be the start date for our school’s morning walking program, “A Great Start”.   Walking will take place Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00 am till 8:30 am, in the gym. Parents will need to transport their child to the school for this 8:00 am sharp start time. Sessions are open to all interested students and staff.
This program will allow children the opportunity to improve their health through increased activity.  Exercise that takes place in the morning will help give a sluggish metabolism a jump-start. This is also a great opportunity for children to spend time with friends and make new ones!!
Please arrive on time, wear comfortable clothing and sneakers - tee shirts and sweat pants are great - layers are best.  Refrain from water bottles, there will be time for water and bathroom breaks at 8:30am.
Enter the building through the back door and meet in the hall by the gym. Parents are welcome to attend with your child.
Call the Health Office for any further information, 926-2465.
