While
Lake Shore did not sneak on to the court in a hollowed out horse, they did
bring a great deal of energy and spirit to their contest last Friday night as the Boys Varsity Basketball team won its third straight league contest defeating
the Trojans of West Seneca East 62-40 in an ECIC Division II battle.
The
Eagle cagers took a quick lead in the first quarter behind junior Jason
Radwan’s 5 points heading into the second stanza up 15-12. Seniors Billy Petersen and Kyle DeNisco took
over from there accounting for 12 and 11 points each in the first half to send
Lake Shore to the locker room leading East 34-21. Like the fabled Greek warriors who snuck out of the wooden horse
to destroy the inhabitants of Troy, the Eagles were in total control throughout
the second half, closing out the third quarter with a couple of DeNisco drives
to take a 51-29 lead over West Seneca’s version of Trojan warriors. DeNisco finished with a game high 19 points,
4 assists and 4 steals. Petersen added
17 points, on 8 of 12 shooting from the field, and grabbed 6 rebounds in the
effort. Sophomore Sean Bellomo
continued his inspired play with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocked
shots. The Eagles will be at home on
Friday, February 1st against Williamsville East. During this game the coaches will be wearing
sneakers to help bring awareness to the fight against cancer during the BCANY
(Basketball Coaches Association of New York) Coaches vs Cancer week. The JV tips off at 5:00 with the Varsity
starting immediately afterward.
