On Monday, April 7th, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team traveled to West Seneca East for a game under the lights. After a 9-9 tie at the end of regulation time, the girls took West Seneca to two periods of overtime. With a quick goal scored by Shelby Will and a fantastic save by Ashley Garrasi, the girls pulled off the 10-9 win to start their league schedule on a positive note. Ashley Garrasi continuously improved throughout the game in goal, progressively stopping more and more shots and gaining more confidence. She made 16 saves in the game. The team struggled through the first half of play, going into halftime a goal behind West Seneca. The second half, they came alive to tie up the score and ultimately, go ahead. Our attack faced West Seneca's tough defensive play but was able to come together to put the ball in the net 10 times. Goals were scored by Lauren Scanlan, with 4, Kelsey McKeown and Lindsay John with 2 each and Cat McCulle and Shelby Will with 1 each. Assists were made by Kelsey McKeown and Lauren Scanlan, each with 2 and Lindsay John and Shelby Will with 1 each. Other offensive contributors were Miranda Schultz, Rose Russo, Lauren Stevens, Linsey Heferle and Jessica Tunis. Our defense strengthened as the game went on and was able to keep many shots away from our goalkeeper. The defense was led by Destiny Sampson, Kelsey Lay, Emily Lemmo and Rachel Catalano with strong contributions from Katie Bacho and Amanda Thiel. This game was an intense way to begin the season. The girls will be facing a lot of tough competition and are ready for any challenge. The next game for the girls is on Wednesday, April 9th against Sweet Home at J.T. Waugh at 4:30. Come out to help cheer the girls on to victory. Go Lady Eagles!!!
The Girls Varsity Softball team dropped their first league game of the year 7-0
to a strong West Seneca East squad. Despite a great game from pitcher Carla Trinca-Conley and catcher Tori Hahn, the defense made several early errors and the
offense managed just one hit by Kelsey Anthon. The team did have several defensive highlights turning two double plays. Paige Anderson caught a line drive at short and flipped to third basemen Katherine Caboot to stop a West Seneca rally. In the fifth inning, Freshman center fielder Kalie Michalski made a great catch a perfect throw to the plate to gun down a runner tagging from third. The Eagles look to get on track with a home game on Wednesday versus Iroquois.
The JV Softball Team lost to West Seneca East last night 11 - 3. The Eagles had a tough day defensively and offensively. The team combined for only 3 hits and had 14 errors in the field. Sophomore Jillian Reitz went 2 for 3 and freshman Allisa Butlak was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's in the 3rd inning.
