On Monday, May 5th, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team traveled to Sweet Home to face the Panthers for the second time this season.  Lake Shore turned what seemed to be a close game at half time into a solid win by the end of the game, improving their record to 9-1.  During the first half of play, the score and game play was very close.  Lake Shore had difficulty controlling the ball and maintaining possession.  At half time, a score of 7-6, Lake Shore only ahead by one goal, did not make the Eagles feel safe and confident.  After a few minor mental adjustments, the girls were able to come together as a team to finish with a 20-10 score by the end of the game.  The girls were impressive in the second half, making very few mistakes and working together.  Ashley Garrasi recorded the win in goal with 10 saves on the day.  The leading scorer was Lauren Scanlan with an impressive 8 goals, giving her 50 this season.  Lauren also had 2 assists.  Lindsay John set up a lot of offensive play for the girls recording 4 goals, 30 on the season, and 4 assists.  Kelsey McKeown was a persistant attacker with 3 goals, 16 this season,  and 2 assists.  Brittany Mazzu had 2 goals, while Shelby Will, Cat McCulle and Emily Lemmo each had one.  Lauren Stevens also recorded an assist.  Jessica Tunis, Rose Russo and Brooke Gadomski also contributed with strong offensive play. The defense that struggled through the first half, came alive in the second half, led by Emily Lemmo, Katie Bacho, Destiny Sampson and Rachel Catalano.  Amanda Thiel also contributed to tough defensive play.  The girls will continue to work through this tough week of play with three games remaining.  They will play Frontier on Tuesday and Grand Island on Wednesday at home.  They will then travel to West Seneca West on Saturday morning.  Come support the Lady Eagles and their hard work.  Go Eagles!!!

The Girls JV Lacrosse team beat Sweet Home for the second time this season with a score of 14-2. The girls played great defense throughout the entire game to hold Sweet Home to only two goals.  Bethany Davis played awesome in goal and made 7 saves. Goals were scored by Marissa Haring with 6, Laura Atkinson with 3, Meagan Hayden and Sarah Voelker each with 2 and Carie Orcutt with 1.  Great game girls! Go Eagles!

The Boys Modified Lacrosse team lost an 8-2 decision to the Sweet Home Panthers on Monday. The team has shown great improvement throughout the course of the season and continues to work hard on the field. Dillon Schindler scored his first goal of the year and Mark Kennedy had a creative behind the back goal in the second quarter. Joe Catalano, Ryan Bentley and CJ Mascio played strong for the Eagles. The next home game is Wednesday at 5PM versus The Nichols School.

Tom Castle and Rick Sojda continue their winning streak to 6-0.  The two of them have been playing first doubles for the Varsity Tennis team.  The team dropped to a 1-5 record as Iroquois beat then 4-1.

The Varsity Baseball team wasted an outstanding pitching performance from Jason Radwan in a eight inning 2-1 loss at West Seneca East. The Eagles had only four hits, and scored when Nick Ellington singled, was sacrificed by Nick Caboot, and driven home by Bill Petersen. A triple by Jim Evancho was wasted when the Eagles couldn't get a squeeze bunt down. RC Hubbard had the Eagles other hit, while Kurby Driscoll was outstanding behind the plate, throwing out 3 baserunners. Radwan was outstanding on the mound in the loss.

The Lake Shore Varsity Softball team played well on Monday nearly knocking
off WNY #5 large school West Seneca East.   Down 5-0 in the sixth inning,
leadoff hitter Jill Reitz (3 for 4) singled, stole second and advanced to third on
a throwing error.  Kelsey Anthon, also 3 for 4, then singled to score the Lady Eagles
first run.  Singles by Paige Anderson and Katherine Caboot loaded the bases
and Andrea Reitz had a clutch two out double to clear the bases and pull
the Eagles within one run 5-4.  Unfortunately, that was as close as they would
get losing 7-4.  The Lady Eagles look to get on the winning track today with
a game at Eden.

The JV Softball team lost to West Seneca East 5 - 3 yesterday in the top of the 7th inning.  The Eagles took an early lead in the first inning 3 - 1.  Rebecca Balone (3 for 4) started off the inning with a single and then stole second to get into scoring position.  Paige Tilert then bunted Balone to 3rd base and Nikki Kreuzer (3 for 4) had a stand up double to center field to score Balone.  Samantha Rosario Ritts (2 for 4) had a double up the middle to score Kreuzer.  She then scored on a passed ball to give the Eagles the lead.  Nikki Kreuzer pitched 5 solid innings holding East to only 4 hits.  Great defensive play by Rebecca Balone and Paige Tilert kept East scoreless for 5 consecutive innings.  Unfortunately West Seneca's bats came out in the top of the 7th and they scored 4 earned runs to defeat the Eagles with a final score of 5 - 3.  The JV team plays at Eden this afternoon at 4:30.

In a historic victory the Boy's JV Lacrosse team defeated Grand Island 11-5.  Scoring was led by Chad Stevens, Mike Abrams, and Ed Williams.  Catlike goaltending by Carl Stevens keep the Grand Island scoring at bay.  The team is now 8-2 which is the most victories by a boy's team since its creation.  They next face Hamburg 5/7 at 5:00 behind the middle school. Come help the Eagles defend the nest!
