The Lady Eagles Varsity Softball team finally got on the winning track with
a big win over Eden 7-3. Carla Trinca-Conley and Kelsey Anthon
shared pitching duties allowing 6 hits while striking out 7 batters. The Lady
Eagles all played great defense lead by several spectacular catches by Jill Reitz
in center field. Offensively, Katherine Caboot (3 for 4 with a triple) and Andrea Reitz (2 for 3) each had 2 RBI's. Jill Reitz, Kalie Michalski, Paige Anderson, and Kaileigh Hubbard
each had 2 hits. Myriah Rammacher, Anthon and Trinca-Conley also added hits for
the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles play a home game against division leading Williamsville East on Friday at 5pm.
With an exciting ending, the Girls' Modified Softball team lost to Amherst 14 to 13. After two innings of play, the eagles were ahead 3 to 1. Going into the fifth, the ladies found themselves trailing by one. A defensive lapse allowed Amherst to score 9 runs in the top of the fifth, making the score 13 to 5 after five innings of play. With RBI's from Alicia Alguire (2 for 3), Lauren Gotsch (2 for 3), and Kim Kashino, the eagles were able to score three runs in the sixth inning and found themselves trailing by 6 going into the bottom of the seventh. Stephanie Holsher (2 for 4) started off the inning with a double. She was then batted in with another double from Tallie Papke (2 for 2). Hayley Hammer and Cassie Kij each hit singles, scoring Papke. Jessica Ludwig cranked the ball, scoring Hammer and Kij while at bat. Alguire scored the eagles last run on a hit from Gotsch. Jolee Johnson pitched the first 4 innings for the lady eagles. She threw to 19 batters, striking out 2 and walking 3. Holsher threw the last three innings. She pitched to 22 batters, walking 3. The lady eagles play on Thursday against Starpoint, where they will be looking for their first win of the season!
On Tuesday, May 6th, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team suffered its second loss of the season in a very close game with Class A power, Frontier. A defensive battle both ways did not allow for much scoring, and the final score was 4-5. Ashley Garrasi helped the defense to stay strong in net making 10 saves. The defensive bunch communicated well and worked hard to keep Frontier away from Ashley. They included Emily Lemmo, Rachel Catalano, Destiny Sampson, Katie Bacho and Kelsey Lay. The attack could not get off many shots with the strong defensive play of Frontier and several errors, including dropping the ball right in front of the net. Goals were scored by Kelsey McKeown, giving her 17 this season, Lindsay John, giving her 31 this season, Lauren Scanlan, giving her 51 and Brittany Mazzu, giving her 9. Assists were made by Lauren Scanlan and Cat McCulle. In the recent standings, Lake Shore still remained on top of E.C.I.C. Division II and Lauren Scanlan, Lindsay John, and Kelsey Mc Keown remained to be some of the top goal scorers in the area. Ashley Garrasi, making 61% of her saves still remains one of the Division's top goalies. The girls look to make some defensive adjustments this afternoon as they face Grand Island in a league battle for the second time this season. Come out and support the girls at J.T. Waugh at 4:30 as they get back on track. Go Lady Eagles!!!
The Lake Shore Boys Track and Field team soared to their third consecutive victory by overcoming a strong Jamestown squad in an absolute nail-biter, scoring 72 2/3 to the Red Raiders' 68 1/3 points. The Boys' victory was sealed as they swept all three relay events, including an amazing win in 3.45.1 for the 4x400m final. The stand out performance of the meet came from Steve Paternostro's 18 points from wins in the long jump (19'7"), 110 hurdles (15.4), and 400 hurdles (57.8). Several Lake Shore athletes helped pick up crucial points in this very important win, including Eagles Scott Dillon, Andy Zamrock, and Zach Spaulding. Congratulations to the Eagles on an amazing effort; they laid their hearts on the line and came out victorious!
