In an injury plagued game the Boy's JV lacrosse team lost 5-11 against West Seneca East. Capt. Mike Abrams, Carl Stevens, and Tony Sanjuro left the game with various injuries hampering the team's effectiveness. Despite the lose of their teammates the boys fought on till the final whistle. They next have a four game stretch starting Tuesday-Friday.
The Boys Modified Lacrosse team lost a tough game on Friday at home to West Seneca West by a score of 10-6. The Eagles held a 6-4 lead midway through the third quarter but could not hang on down the stretch. Mike Kukoleca, Dillon Schindler, Rory Jimerson, and Mark Kennedy scored for the Eagles while Matt Valliere, Ryan Bentley, and Joe Catalano had strong games in the field. The Eagles travel to Williamsville East today for a 5 PM showdown with the Flames.
On Saturday, May 10th, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team traveled to West Seneca West to face them for the second time this season. The girls have been preparing for the improvement that West had surely made to their play. Lake Shore also worked on adding depth and creativity to our own game to make ourselves difficult to defend. The girls came out strong from the beginning and maintained the lead throughout the game. At half time, the score was 7-4 and though West came on strong at the beginning of the second half, Lake Shore's smart play and determination allowed them to maintain the lead and finish with final score of 12-9. West proved to be a challenging opponent for the girls. Ashley Garrasi played well in goal making 12 saves, giving her a 57% save percentage at this point in the season. Goal-scoring came from all around on the attack. Lauren Scanlan put in 4 goals bringing her total up to 60 goals this season. Kelsey McKeown had 3 goals and 1 assist. Cat McCulle had 3 goals and 1 assist. Shelby Will had 2 goals and Brittany Mazzu had an assist. The girls' creative field work help them to defeat their opponents with good movement and quick cuts. Also contributing to the attack were Rose Russo, Jessica Tunis and Kalie Weinheimer. The defense played with intensity, making several runs into the attacking zone to help keep the ball out of our end of the field. Emily Lemmo, Destiny Sampson, Katie Bacho, Rachel Catalano and Amanda Thiel communicated and moved well to prevent many shots on Ashley in goal. The girls will go into a tough upcoming week facing both Hamburg and Niagara-Wheatfield away. Both of these teams are very strong opponents and Lake Shore is anticipating two tough games. The girls play on Monday and again on Friday. They will then return home for their final regular season home game on Monday, May 19th against non-league opponent, Iroquois. The girls continue to work hard to prepare for play-offs in the near future. Come out and support the Lady Eagles as their regular season comes to an end!
On Saturday morning, the Girls' Modified Softball team lost to Iroquois. The lady eagles saw 11 Iroquois batters in the first inning, going down 5-0 early in the game. With their first at bat, Jessica Ludwig (2 for 4) started off the eagles with a single and then stole home on a number of over throws, given the eagles a bit of hope. However, with bases loaded in the same inning, the eagles were not able to score any more runs. Defensively, the lady's had a rough day and a number of errors kept the eagles out of the game. Offensively, the eagles kept their bats going. Anna Grazier (1 for 3) scored a run and had an RBI. Frankie Harris went 2 for 4 scoring a run also. The lady's play their last two home games today and tomorrow. Come on out and support your Eagles!
On Friday the Varsity Baseball team knocked the Hamburg Bulldogs out of first place, with a stunning 2-1 road win. Sophomore RC Hubbard pitched a complete game five-hitter, his finest outing of the season. Down 1-0, the Eagles scored both their runs in the fourth inning. Jason Radwan led off ,earning a base on balls. With one-out he stole second and went to third on the poor throw. Kurby Driscoll singled Radwan home to knot the score. Driscoll stole second, went to third on Eric Renn's single. Matt Boye then squeezed home Driscoll. and earned a basehit, The Eagles now 4-4, play home vs Sweet Home tomorrow.
