The Boy's Varsity Baseball team overcame an early 3-0 deficit to pound Sweet Home 12-4.
Jason Radwan won his fourth game of the season by tossing a complete game two-hitter.
Aaron Crusan drove home two runs in the first, and Eric Renn's bases loaded two-out double cleared the bases, giving the Eagles a 5-3 lead. Radwan later had a three-run double to ice the game. Nick Ellington had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Radwan and
Bill Petersen had two hits, Josh Taylor hit a double. Nick Caboot, Kurby Driscoll, Matt Boye, and Jim Evancho had one hit each. The Eagles face the Division leading Hamburg Bulldogs at home today at 4:30, support Lake Shore athletics.
The Boys JV Baseball team won their 5th game of the season 10-6 over Sweet Home. The Eagles were down early, but battled back with 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take the lead. In the top of the 7th inning, all who were at the game were treated to one of Baseball's rarest plays. Sweet Home had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. The runners were put in motion and the batter hit a line drive that was grabbed by Josh Gotsch for the first out. Gotsh then stepped on 1st base for the second out and ran to 2nd base to complete the unassisted triple play to seal the victory. How rare is this play? The feat has only occurred 14 times in modern Major League history. The unassisted triple play, a perfect game and hitting 4 homeruns in one game are widely viewed as the three rarest of baseball plays. The Eagles were also led by:
Joe Juskiewicz who pitched a complete game 5hitter, had 2 hits, scored 2 runs, stole 2 bases and drove in 3 runs;
Mike Waring with 3 hits;
Rene Rodriguez with 2 hits and 2 runs batted in;
Kyle Schmidle, Bobby heath, Josh Gotsch and Ben Senior who each chipped in a hit; and
Cameron Clark who had a pinch hit rbi double.
The Girls' Modified Softball team played their last home game of the season yesterday with a 10-3 lost to West Seneca East. The lady eagles held East to 0 runs in the first two innings and allowed East to score two unearned runs in the third inning. Hayley Hammer was walked in the bottom of the third, and with a sacrifice bunt from Jessica Ludwig, she was able to advance to second. With two outs, Jolee Johnson ( 3 for 4) hit a single, advancing Hammer to third. Hammer scored on the next pitch as Johnson stole second, bringing the eagles within one. In the fourth, East scored another unearned run and two earned runs, taking the lead. After five innings of play, the Eagles were trailing 5 to 3. At the top of the sixth, with a defensive lapse, East was able to score 5 more unearned runs. Tallie Papke pitched the entire game for the lady eagles, pitching to 40 batters, striking out 9 and walking 4. The Eagles play at Hamburg on Friday.
The Lake Shore Boy's Lacrosse team pulled together to produce their first win this season against the Jamestown Red Raiders 7-4. They were led by freshman goalie Alex Govenettio who had 17 saves while taking control of the field and guiding his defense. Jeremy Cournyea helped him while playing long pole with two blocked shots. The offense was given a boost by both Todd Bentley Jr. and Ryan Keyes. Bentley had 3 goals and 2 assists while Keyes scored 2 goals himself. The Eagles look forward to finishing the season strong with four more games remaining before the start of the post season.
The Boy's JV Lacrosse team defeated Jamestown 12-4 with strong goaltending from Carl Stevens and solid offensive play. Cody Haring and Chad Stevens led all scorers and defensive standout Adam McCulle dropped in a goal. They next face Iroquois on Weds at Iroquois.
