On Friday, May 16th, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team did what needed to be done to hold their spot as the #1 team in E.C.I.C. Division II.  The girls traveled to Niagara-Wheatfield for their final regular season league game and defeated the Falcons 13-10.  Their record is no 13-2-0. The Falcons scored the first goal, but after that, Lake Shore went ahead and never let go of the lead.  The girls went into the game knowing that they needed to win in order to secure the #1 spot for themselves.  Only a win would have given them the best league record in the division.  The game went back and forth with times of strong pressure by the Lake Shore attack with fast-paced field movement and great goal-scoring to times of defending a tough Niagara-Wheatfield attack consisting of some of the top goal scorers in WNY.  Lauren Scanlan led the way on attack putting in six goals and helping out with 5 assists.  She has 68 goals this season which puts her right on the edge of overcoming the 69 that she had last season within the next few games.  Lindsay John, another offensive threat, put in 3 goals and had 2 assists.  She now has 40 this season.  Kelsey McKeown had 2 goals and 3 assists, 25 goals this season.  Lauren Stevens had a goal and an assist.  Cat McCulle had a goal.  The attack kept the ball moving with a lot of long passes down the field, not giving the opponent time to fully transition to defense.  Offensive contributors included Rose Russo, Shelby Will and Jessica Tunis.  Our defense had times of great strength and times of difficulty with the tough attack of Niagara-Wheatfield.  Emily Lemmo, Brittany Mazzu, Destiny Sampson and Rachel Catalano held the defense together doing their best to keep the powerful goal-scorers away from Ashley Garrasi in goal.  Their strength was in their ability to intercept and get the ball quickly to the attack to transition.  Ashley Garrasi made 7 saves on the day and now has a 55% save percentage.  The girls have worked so hard this season to come as far as they have.  They have a final regular season non-league game on Monday, May 19th at 4:30 at J.T Waugh against Iroquois.  This will be our senior game of the season, as it is the seniors final regular season home game.  Come out to cheer the girls on to victory and support the seniors who have worked so hard over their high school careers.  Go Lady Eagles!!!
