On Wednesday, June 4th, the Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team played their final game of the 2008 in the Section VI finals at Amherst.  The finals were played against strong division rival, Hamburg.  Though Lake Shore had been able to defeat Hamburg twice during the regular season, this time it was Hamburg's turn to come out on top.  With a final score of 8-10, Lake Shore ended its best lacrosse season yet.  With a final record of 16-3-0, the girls finished their season as E.C.I.C. Division II champs and the runners-up in Section VI Class B.  The final game will be televised on Time Warner Cable on channel 13 on Friday, June 6th at 7:00 PM.  After a rough first half, with a score of 7-2, Hamburg ahead, Lake Shore finally showed some heart scoring 6 goals and only allowing Hamburg to score 3. It was not enough to defeat Hamburg, but it proved the heart and confidence that the Lake Shore girls had.  The leading scorer of the day was Lauren Scanlan, with 5 goals.  Lauren finishes this season with 93 goals.  She is the leading scorer in all of Section VI this season and will surely be an offensive threat next season.  Her goal scoring also gives her 162 career Varsity goals in her two years in the program.  Senior captain, Lindsay John, who will be greatly missed next year, scored 3 goals giving her 55 for the season.  All season long, these tremendous goal-scorers were supported by attackers who proved to be forces in Division II and Section VI.  Kelsey McKeown finishes her last high school lacrosse season with 29 goals.  She has been a leader on the field and was a tremendous captain this season.  Cat McCulle, Shelby Will, Rose Russo, Kelsey Lay and Lauren Stevens all helped to fight hard on attack to try to come back to put down Hamburg's early lead.   Despite the improvement in their level of play, they were unable to pull off the win.  Emily Lemmo has come on strong as a lacrosse defender and stepped up her game to try to add to the attack during the game.  Brittany Mazzu, Destiny Sampson, Rachel Catalano and Katie Bacho tried to make as many interceptions as possible to prevent Hamburg from transitioning to their attack.  Ashley Garrasi had her best season in goal since she began lacrosse.  She has received more recognition for the improvement in her play than ever in the past.  Though this game was tough for her, her season as a whole was very successful.  She became a leader and gained more confidence in her ability to play her position well.  All of the members of the team were important contributors throughout the season, whether as a starting player or a reserve, ready to help out a starter who needed a break.  The girls should be so proud of the accomplishments that they have made as a team.  They have brought their program to a very high level of competition in a very short amount of time.  They have brought pride to the school and the community.  They have not only won many games and brought their game to the level of many of the elite programs in the area, but they have played with class and sportsmanship.  Thank you to everyone who has supported the girls throughout their incredible season.  The girls will, no doubt, be ready to go next season.  Go Lady Eagles!!!
