Due to the recent economic crisis and potential budget implications, it is important to address several related key issues. In 2005, due to the continual increase of costs associated with energy consumption, the District adopted and will continue to follow an energy conservation plan.
This plan consists of the following standards of practice:
1. During normal school hours, the thermostats in each building will be set to 70 degrees in the elementary buildings and 68 degrees in the middle and high school buildings. These settings will allow for a two-degree variation, either way, throughout the building.
2. All windows and outside doors are to be closed during the heating season. Classroom doors should also be closed during the day.
3. All lights will be turned off when rooms, including cafeterias, gymnasiums and auditoriums, are not in use.
4. All computers, which can be, will be shut down or scheduled for a sleep mode at the end of the day.
Furthermore, it is important to note that all faculty and staff are conserving all materials and supplies as much as possible, including but not limited to paper use and copying as well. Your understanding in implementing these guidelines will be greatly appreciated, as the future fiscal implications will be beneficial to the Lake Shore Central School-Community.
In conclusion, it is our commitment to achieve the goals that the Board of Education has set for the District. We will accomplish these goals, but please know that we will need to become creative and possibly experience some significant sacrifices along the way. Your support is appreciated in this District-Wide endeavor.
