On Saturday March 14, 2015 a group of Lake Shore 6-9th grade girls attended; AAUW (American Association of University Women)Tech Savvy Girls 2015 conference/workshops at the University at Buffalo. The theme for this year's event was brilliant and resilient. Girls were able to participate in many STEM related workshops in which they were able to have hands on learning experiences. Our girls participated in workshops such as; NanoTASTIC, Digging for Dinosaurs, Mix It Up; Take It Apart, Ice Cream Anyone, Smart Teens Finish Rich, Ready Set Robot, Meet the Medicine Lady, and many more enriching and exciting workshops led by powerful and successful women from around the country. Keynote speakers at this year's forum included; Linda Cureton: CEO of Muse Technologies and former Chief Information Officer, NASA. BS in Mathematics from Howard University, MS in Applied Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University Sonya Summerour Clemmons, Ph.D.: President CEO of SSC Enterprises, BS from Spelman College, MS & Ph.D. in Bioengineering from University of California, San Diego Anne K. Roby Ph.D.: Senior Vice President, Praxair, Inc., BS in Engineering from Villanova University, Ph.D. in Engineering from University of Delaware Stacie Gregory: Doctoral candidate in Engineering Education at Utah State University, BS in Physics from Spelman College and MS in Material Science and engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology This is the first year Lake Shore has sent a group of girls to the Tech Savvy Girls Conference; it was a wonderful experience for all of the girls. We look forward to Tech Savvy Girls 2016!!! Special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Kromer for helping to organize and chaperone this wonderful event as well as Mr. Drezek who also chaperoned. Mr. Drezek and I have already begun planning for next year's event to ensure as many of our Lake Shore girls as possible attend this fantastic event!!
